New Career - RCMP?
Career Change Needed
Hello Everyone,
It has been some time since I have addressed the masses. I think the last time was in relation to the Biotinidase Deficiency that the kids have. Your prayers got us through that and we are very grateful for that. We now have another issue that needs prayer and I am asking that you again remember us in your prayers. As most of you know, for the last 10 years I have been working for a company called Calian on a Federal Government contract. Calian has successfully won the contract each time it went to tender since the project was created in the early 80's. Due to some... how do I say it politely... political nonsense, Calian will most likely not win the contract the next time it goes to tender. Officially I am out of a job as of this coming Sept 30; however, due to the political mess, the current contract will likely be extended for a year more (at least we hope). The general consensus is that Calian will have a hard time winning the contract after that extension expires. All that being said, I'm getting closer and closer to the unemployment line. The decision was made 3 years ago for Allie to be a stay at home mom; therefore, my income is basically all we have (with the exception of a small amount of $$ from school bus driving).
Allie and I have not lost faith and are trusting 100% in the Lord. We believe he will supply all our needs. We also believe that we have to do our part as well. That being said, we are exploring the possibility of a new career for me. My expertise is very specific to the contract I have been working on, so my options are somewhat limited. We have found one field that I "might" be able to enter; however, there are a LOT of hurdles to get over. Some of the issues are... I "must" get into shape physically (I have started an intense physical training program), I will have to leave Allie and the kids for 6 months for intensive training and once the training is done, we'll have to move across the country away from everyone and everything we know. To get into this field there is an 8 step application process which is VERY tough. We're doing all we can to prepare for each step.
As you can see the future holds some changes for our family and none of them are certain; we're just doing our best and trusting the Lord for the rest. Please keep us and our uncertain future in your prayers.
Thanks,
Glenn (on behalf of all of us)
Written Exam
Hello everyone,
I want to thank you all for keeping us in your prayers. As a quick update... Tomorrow (Saturday) I have a written examination from 2pm to 7pm. I must pass that exam to even be considered. Oh, I guess I never mentioned what I am trying for.... I am hoping to be accepted and be hired as an RCMP officer. As I mentioned I have to write a written test tomorrow and if I pass that, I'll be asked to do a physical test and only then will I be asked to go for an interview. After the interview process I'll have to pass a polygraph (lie detector test) and security check. I have been told that only 1 in 10 people make it through the entire process.
I want to thank you for your continued prayers,
Glenn
I need to pre-PARE
The RCMP has a Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) which I must pass....
Details on the PARE can be found here... http://www.rcmp.ca/recruiting-recrutement/resources-ressources/pare-tape-eng.htm#video
Contract Extension
I wrote the RCMP test on Aug 23 and was told to expect results within 3-4 weeks. It has been over a month now and I haven't heard anything yet. I guess I will have to contact them.
On another note, I just got word today that my current work contract has been extended to April 1, 2010. It appears that I won't be joining the unemployment line (at least not this year).
We would like to thank everyone for keeping our family in your prayers.
Cheers,
Glenn
Test Results
I finally got word back about my application to the RCMP. Yesterday I received a letter which said...
This letter refers to your application for employment as a regular member with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). We are pleased to inform you that having successfully completed the RCMP Police Aptitude Test (RPAT), you have been selected to continue to the next phase of the recruiting process.
Included with the letter is 100+ pages of paperwork I must complete... all of which relates to me and my past. I don't know if I'll be able to remember everything... or if I even want to.
I still have to make it through 7 more stages of the recruitment process before I "might" be invited to attend the training depot.
Decided NOT to go forward
It has been some time since I updated this site and a LOT has changed since then. For various reason we have decided that a physical location move is not best for our family and some time ago we decided that for that reason I would not continue the application process with the RCMP.
I have since taken a new position with Delaney Bus Lines. Follow the link for more details.
